Punjab Cricket Association Stadium,Chandigarh, Chandigarh, India - www.vishvabhraman.com

The Punjab Cricket Association Stadium (Punjabi: ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕ੍ਰਿਕੇਟ ਏਸੋਸਿਏਸ਼ਨ ਸਟੇਡਿਅਮ) is located in Chandigarh. It is popularly referred to as the Mohali Stadium. The stadium is home to the Punjab team. Punjab's second international cricket stadium has been approved by BCCI in Bathinda, Punjab. The construction of the stadium took around INR 25 crore and 3 years to complete. The stadium has an official capacity of 26,950 spectators. The stadium was designed by Arun Loomba and Associates,Panchkula and constructed by R.S. Construction Company, Chandigarh.
The lights here are unconventional compared to other cricket stadiums, in that the light pillars are very low in height. This is to avoid aircraft from the nearby airport colliding with the light pillars.
The stadium is the 19th and a relatively new Test cricket venue in India. The pitch has a reputation for being lively and supporting pace bowlers, however in recent days it has slowed down and assists spin bowling as well. It was inaugurated with a One Day International match between India and South Africa during the Hero Cup on 22 November 1993.
The first Test match here was held the following season, between India and West Indies on 10 December 1994. One of the most famous one-day matches on this ground was a thrilling Cricket World Cup semi-final encounter between Australia and West Indies in 1996. PCA stadium hosted 3 matches of 2011 world cup including the nail biting second Semi-final match between India and Pakistan on 30 March 2011 which was eventually won by India. The match was attended by the Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh of India and Yousaf Raza Gillani of Pakistan, owing to its crucial nature, and as a measure of cricket diplomacy for normalizing relations. The match was won by India.
PCA stadium is home of Kings XI Punjab (IPL Mohali franchisee).
The current pitch curator for the PCA Stadium is Daljit Singh and the design consultant is Ar. Sufyan Ahmad.

Rock Garden Chandigarh, Chandigarh, India - www.vishvabhraman.com

The Rock Garden or Rock Garden of Chandigarh is a Sculpture garden in ChandigarhIndia, also known as Nek Chand's Rock Garden after its founder Nek Chand, a government official who started the garden secretly in his spare time in 1957. Today it is spread over an area of forty-acres (160,000 m²), it is completely built of industrial & home waste and thrown-away items. It is situated near Sukhna Lake It consists of man-made interlinked waterfalls and many other sculptures that have been made of scrap & other kinds of wastes (bottles, glasses, bangles, tiles, ceramic pots, sinks, electrical waste, etc.) which are placed in walled paths.
In his spare time, Chand began collecting materials from demolition sites around the city. He recycled these materials into his own vision of the divine kingdom of Sukrani, choosing a gorge in a forest near Sukhna Lake for his work. The gorge had been designated as a land conservancy, a forest buffer established in 1902 that nothing could be built on. Chand’s work was illegal, but he was able to hide it for eighteen years before it was discovered by the authorities in 1975. By this time, it had grown into a 12-acre (49,000 m2) complex of interlinked courtyards, each filled with hundreds of pottery-covered concrete sculptures of dancers, musicians, and animals.
His work was in serious danger of being demolished, but he was able to get public opinion on his side, and in 1976 the park was inaugurated as a public space. Nek Chand was given a salary, a title ("Sub-Divisional Engineer, Rock Garden"), and a workforce of 50 laborers so that he could concentrate full-time on his work. It even appeared on an Indian stamp in 1983.The Rock Garden is still made out of recycled materials; and with the government’s help, Chand was able to set up collection centers around the city for waste, especially rags and broken ceramics.
When Chand left the country on a lecture tour in 1996, the city withdrew its funding, and vandals attacked the park. The Rock Garden Society took over the administration and upkeep of this unique visionary environment.
The garden is visited by over five thousand people daily, with a total of more than twelve million visitors since its inception.

Sukhna Lake,Chandigarh, India - www.vishvabhraman.com

Sukhna Lake(Hindiसुख़ना) in ChandigarhIndia is a reservoir at the foothills of the Himalayas, the Shivalik hills. This 3 km² rainfed lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream coming down from the Shivalik Hills. Originally the seasonal flow entered the lake directly causing heavy siltation. To check the inflow of silt, 25.42 km² of land was acquired in the catchment area and put under vegetation. In 1974, the Choe was diverted and made to bypass the lake completely, the lake being fed by three siltation pots, minimising the entry of silt into the lake itself.
